Paralympic gold medallist and world record breaker William Ellard joins Halo Athletes

About William Ellard

Will, from Beccles in Suffolk, is one of Britain’s brightest para swimming stars, competing in the S14 classification. At just 19 years old, he has already achieved what most athletes dream of – representing Great Britain on the world stage and returning home a Paralympic champion.

At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Will claimed two gold medals and a silver. His standout performance came in the 200m freestyle, where he not only took gold but also set a new world record. These achievements led to him being shortlisted for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, earning recognition alongside fellow sporting stars Sky Brown and Luke Littler.

Will’s performances have firmly established him as one of the country’s leading para swimmers. He trains with Norwich Swan Swimming Club and continues to push for improvement in every event.

In recognition of his remarkable achievements, Will was awarded an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours for services to swimming – an honour that cements his status as a role model both in sport and in the local community.

Life beyond the pool

While his focus remains on training and competing at the highest level, Will’s journey and achievements already inspire the next generation of athletes in Suffolk and beyond.
