Asset Management

The asset management area of HaloITSM allows you to store an unlimited number of asset and CI records, broken down by Asset Groups and Asset Types. You can then define the Asset Fields used for each asset type including matching fields, key fields and ordering the asset columns:

Asset Groups

Asset groups are used to group multiple asset types together and is the default view of HaloITSM's CMDB. Out of the box we have 3 asset groups configured here.

Asset Types

Every asset record in HaloITSM will need an asset type, there are 18 asset types out of the box that can be modified and added to here. The main configuration needed for an asset type is an icon (which can be changed by clicking on the existing icon and then "Upload a new Image"), the group the asset type is in, and the field list.

Asset Fields

Asset fields work in a very similar way to ticket fields, you can drag and drop them in a field list to reorder them, you can create custom ones using the "Add+" button and you can change which fields appear on what asset type.

The added benefit of asset field list configuration is the use of Key Fields. These determine which of the fields appear when viewing a list that contains multiple asset types such as "Asset by group" in the agent interface or "My Assets" on the end-user portal.

Configuration Items & Dependencies

CIs are configured in HaloITSM in a similar way to assets. When clicking into an asset such as our example AZ001, the overview tab will show you any recent activity logged against the asset as well as any currently open tickets. The configured field list and information populated is visible on the right-hand side.

The dependencies tab is a visual representation of the relationships tab to show upstream and downstream relationships that you can map to this CI.

The change history tab shows every change(s) made to the CI including tickets assigned, assigned user changes and relationship updates.

Creating/Importing Assets

New assets can be created manually by clicking into the asset management module and clicking New in the top right corner. You'll be prompted to choose an asset type and then you'll be able to fill in all the relevant fields. Of course, entering each asset individually could take forever, that's why there are many ways of bulk importing assets in HaloITSM.

A common way is by using the Import Assets option in Configuration > Asset Management > General Settings. This uses a XLS import spreadsheet to bulk add many assets and their associated information. More information on spreadsheet imports can be found here.

A more common way to get assets into the system is through one of our many asset management and alerting integrations…
